Gearing up your bearings

Drive systems found on cranes, wind turbines, and smaller designs can be simplified by incorporating a gear on either the inner or outer bearing race of a slewing ring bearing. A variety of factors—including gear static strength, resistance to pitting, and gear/pinion interfaces—should be taken into account when considering a slewing ring gear.
