Muskegon, Michigan, USA...The operational life of a wind turbine can be increased by up to 10 years by upgrading its components and technology. A pitch bearing upgrade in particular can increase turbine life and efficiency and save hundreds of thousands of dollars in costly downtime.

A new white paper from Kaydon describes the defining characteristics of pitch bearings, the most common causes of pitch bearing failure, and the specific bearing improvements (mitigating edge loading and strengthening the races, addressing separator load and wear, and preventing contamination) that can extend the wind turbine life cycle.

Kaydon has designed and manufactured slewing bearings for wind turbine pitch and yaw positions since the 1990s.
